Friday Update

Food Card Distribution at Parent Teacher Conferences - Thanks to our partners at Heritage University and Yakima Education Foundation, every student enrolled in MASD was eligible to receive a $50 Safeway gift card for food.  We are fortunate to live in a community with such generous partners in education.  Research is clear that students who are hungry do not learn as well as students whose appetites are satisfied.  Thank you to these partners for helping us serve our communities.  If you were not able to pick up the gift cards during conference week, please see the school offices for more information.

Do you need a new Back Pack!  Five hundred new backpacks were delivered to the Harrah campus this past week and Mrs. Widener and the team are ready to distribute them to students. Stay tuned as to the process for distribution and make sure that your student picks one up and uses it to bring books, equipment, and lessons to and from school.

The Primary Project at Harrah is in full swing! This is a program to support our youngest students through play on campus and to help them adjust to being at school. The program is staffed by volunteers under the guidance of Dr. Julie Schillreff.  One of the volunteers is a former student of Mt. Adams School District.

Hazel Health is providing medical services to our District.  The Harrah Certified Nurse Assistant used our Online medical program Hazel Health for the first time.  She reported that it was a success and very helpful for the student and family to access a licensed medical professional for consultation and to address their medical needs without leaving the walls of the school.  This is an amazing service that Mt. Adams offers all students and families enrolled in our district.  If you have questions about Hazel Health and how you might be able to access services, please contact our new school nurse Mr. Scott Podruzney.

This Cafeteria Food is Amazing!  Students at White Swan High School are loving the lunches provided by our food service department.  In fact, when students have the option of leaving early on Wednesdays or staying for lunch and the majority of students are staying for lunch.  Meal counts are well above our normal lunch counts for students and the fact that they have the freedom to leave early and they choose to stay through lunch is a testimony to the excellent and tasty meals we are providing them.

Here is the actual menu from this Wednesday:

Parent Teacher Conferences were well attended this year!  This week at Harrah Elementary and Mount Adams Middle School approximately 87% of our students and families participated in conferences. The teachers and parents reported that the new schedule was nice and it allowed for a bit more time for each conference. The relationship between the teacher and the family is one of the most important relationships in a child’s educational career.  Thank you to both teachers and parents for making this conference session such a great success for our students!

Basketball Season is here!  Basketball season at Mt. Adams Middle School kicked off this week. The boys began practicing and there are quite a few participating. Mr. Manni is excited to bring this sport to our Harrah Campus and to ensure an exciting and productive season for our Charger athletes.

White Swan High School finished up Student Led Conferences this week. Families had the opportunity to attend conferences where their students showcased their hard work including grades and progress towards graduation through credit checks. We started our new quarter on Friday and with it brings new activities and Wednesday opportunities.  For example, Ms. Peggy Sanchey will begin jam making next Wednesday on November 2nd.

NEW CTE Offerings on the White Swan Campus - Mr. Muller our CTE director is excited to see our program expanding and offering new learning experiences for our students. Our FFA students traveled to Granger and were able to observe and participate in bison being vaccinated. Our CTE Art students will be taking a field trip to Mary Hill Museum to view a special art exhibit and Ms. Dix, our foods teacher, has received a new commercial refrigerator. This new refrigerator will allow her to expand foods programing for students!

Harrah Student of the Month-  Student of the month assemblies took place this week. Principal Widener reports, “We had three assemblies this week and two more on Monday and Tuesday next week. It is so much fun to see the awards given out for being Safe, Kind, Respectful and Responsible.”  Mrs. Widener also admits that the students participating in “Minute to Win it” Games are very fun to watch for the whole campus!

The Panther and Charger Spirit is Alive and Well- Mr. Hernandez reports that, “We have Spirit here on the Harrah Campus!” Wednesday was pajama day on the Harrah campus with many students, teachers, and administrators participating. Thursday was "Anything but a Backpack Day, and Friday is “Twin Day”. Rumor is that Mr. Manni and Officer Kolve will be twinning, so keep an eye open to see who… or what they will be.
