White Swan Receives a Career and Technical Education Grant- This week our District received some great news. The White Swan High School CTE department will receive a grant from the state that is just over $400,000! Mrs. Tenney states, “With this money we will be adding multiple CTE pathways for graduation, materials and equipment. Our CTE director Ms. Kristi Raines wrote the grant and we are very proud of her hard work and accomplishment.”  Congratulations to Ms. Raines and to the White Swan Team.  The real beneficiaries will be our students and future employers who will be able to hire White Swan Graduates that will be better prepared to step right into the workforce following graduation.

The Cultural Classroom - Students in Ms. Apodaca’s culture class are working on making their own moccasins. In this class, students make connections to culture and learn while having fun. In order to make a set of moccasins, students learned how to measure, make and follow a pattern, and be able to use the product that they made. They also get to learn how to sew, which is a valuable life skill. Thank you Ms. Apodaca for bringing life to our “Since Time Immemorial Curriculum”.

Migrant Health Fair was a Success!  This week, Ms. Liz Capetillo and her team offered a Health Fair specifically focused on our Migrant Families.  There were over 20 health care organizations and dozens of parents and family members of our students.  The Migrant grant provided a meal and the support for this important event.  The main presentation was on diabetes awareness, prevention, and support.  Thank you Ms. Capetillo and Mr. Simental, and all of the others that made this event so pertinent to our community.

A Permanent Vice Principal and Athletic Director was hired for White Swan High School.  Mr. Gerry Mueller has been serving on an interim basis in this position during this current school year.  This week, he competed with another finalist for the position and prevailed.  His proven record of care for our students, high energy, listening to the community, and support for ALL students and staff made way for this selection.  Mr. Mueller is responsible for having the vision in creating our newly formed golf team with 16 students as well as negotiating a challenging sports season coming off of the pandemic.  Mr. Mueller is also a strong instructional leader, working with Principal Tenney to continue to ensure that all students receive high levels of learning, every day!  Welcome aboard Mr. Mueller!
