Friday Update March 18, 2022
  1. LINK

We focused on training our web/link leaders to be able to facilitate activities with their mentees. These activities are traditionally done in orientation and are meant to build relationships with students. After successful 2-day training with leaders we were able to facilitate a meet and greet with mentees. The WEB leaders divided and did a 2-day meet and greet with 7th graders where they were divided into their superhero themed groups and played some games, did introductions and worked on team bonding/ building. The High school Link Crew team did this as well in a one-day session. The feedback from all mentees and leaders was great. Students had fun and loved working with upperclassmen. We are working on coordinating more of these meet ups but also incorporating academic mentoring and support.

  1. GEAR UP

GEAR UP students have been able to participate in virtual college tours including Columbia Basin Community College, Walla Walla Community College, Oregon State University. Students also were able to attend presentations with the Yakama Nation Fisheries Salmon Project, National Guard and Ready to Rise scholarship programing. We also had a PNWU Roots to Wings session on campus and participated via zoom with PNWU students, Doctors, and Yakama Nation Tribal School Students. Currently, we are working on planning some in person trips and also some workshops for students during lunch.
