Friday Update

Meeting with Law Enforcement and Mt. Adams School District – Today we had a meeting with the Tribal Public Safety Commissioner and his lieutenant, Yakima County Sheriff and his lieutenant, and the Washington State Patrol District Three Commander. Topics of discussion included current concerns and how to create strategies to keep students and staff safe.  Some topics that we discussed included specific citizens in our community, response time, the substation, and how to secure a commissioned officer to serve our District.  It was a very productive meeting and we hope to have a resource officer soon.

Adopt a 2022 WSHS Senior Project - The idea is to “adopt” a senior from White Swan high school and surprise him or her with a care package or some other memorable gifts. There are no guidelines, just a maximum purchase amount of $100. It is all about having fun and bringing a smile to a senior’s face.  WSHS has 63 seniors. Signing up is easy: pick a number between 1-63 and you will receive a senior at random. Once the numbers are all picked the bio sheets will be sent out to the sponsoring family! The gifts can be anonymous if you choose.  If you have questions, feel free to reach out to Marisa Owen – mowen@masd209.org. Panther Awards for your enjoyment – Mt. Adams School District has teachers who love their students. Spanish Parenting Classes will be offered via Distance Learning – Mr. McCracken reports, “We're excited to offer another session of our Spanish version of Strengthening Families.”  We're hoping to begin the week of February 28th with a phone orientation and pre-assessment.  This program will be offered through the computer for families.  Supplies and activity instruction will be distributed to families on a weekly basis.  The program is designed for young people ages 10 to 14 and for their caregivers.  Please contact the Harrah School Office if you have questions or you can contact Dr. Julie Schillreff at jschillreff@masd209.org.

Spring Sports are in the air, in the fields, on the courts, and this year “on the golf course.”  We are very excited to see the enthusiasm of students as they transition from Winter sports to Spring sports.  We anticipate the largest turnout ever for the Spring sports programs and we wish all of our Cougar athletes the very best for this season.
