Friday Update

Safety is First Priority on the White Swan Campus - As part of our campus safety effort this week White Swan had a K-9 Officer on campus. This program provides administration with valuable information and ways to help our students stay safe and hold each other accountable. Once any drug or drug paraphernalia is detected, the White Swan High School staff member, Ms.  Soledad Zintzun makes immediate contact with the student and the student’s guardian.   Principal Tenney states, “Our goal is to keep our campus a safe environment for all students while providing interventions for any student that needs them.”

Winter Sports - Both the Boys and Girls basketball season have ended. Mr. Mueller reports, that he is very proud of the hard work and heart our players exhibited throughout the season.  In addition, the White Swan Campus would like to give a special shout out to our coaches, adult leaders, parents, and community who were there for every game supporting our student athletes.  Go Cougars and Cougar Fans!

Spring is in the air is so is Graduation.  Principal Tenney reports that graduation planning is underway.  The Graduation Committee will meet and begin planning within the next couple of weeks. The committee is a team of staff and students. Our seniors are ready to celebrate both their graduation and the end of an ALMOST normal school year. Students across the campus are looking forward to Spring as we return to many of the time-honored traditions such as prom and other events that are the highlight of high school social life.

Is there a Golf Team in White Swan’s future?  I learned that there are students who live in our community who love to golf!  Learning this, Athletic Director Mueller starting checking with potential coaches and student golfers and learned that we have a ranked golfer on staff as well as a hand full of students who already are accomplished golfers.  So, I plan to address this possibility with the Board at the next meeting with plans to initiate a team as early as March 1, 2022, as long as there are no objections.  My position is that any time we are able to provide an opportunity for our students to engage in activities that keep them busy, provide skills or learning that they can practice throughout life, and have an opportunity to bring the good news of our communities to the rest of the state of Washington… Let’s go Cougars!

Benefits of A New School Campus – I had the opportunity to walk the new school campus several times this week and once with Board President Larry Garcia.  On one of my walks through the play area I met Araceli.  After having a short conversation, I asked how she liked the new school and this is what she said, “I used to miss school a lot, but I never miss school now, because I love our new school!”
