Friday Update

Smarter Balanced Assessment update – Mr. Shawn Thurman reports the following: 85.45% of our student body have completed the English Language Arts assessment 74.14% of our student body have completed the Math assessment.

Mr. Jon Scott announced this week that MASD has received Another large disbursement to our schools and libraries from the Emergency Connectivity Fund (secured in the American Rescue Plan)—$26M in this round heading to the state (after receiving $28M in round 1). The funds will be used to secure enough Chromebooks to allow students to have a device at home and one at school.

The Harrah Admin team is participating in 'The Principal PLC- A Leadership Academy Series'. This is an 8-part PLC series that is being offered through collaborative efforts of Capital Region ESD 113 (Tumwater), North Central ESD 171 (Wenatchee) and ESD 105.  The Leadership Academy Series started on Tuesday, October 12, and is scheduled for the 2nd Tuesday of the month through May 2022.  The 1-hour sessions are scheduled for 6:30 - 7:30 AM. The topics that will be covered include: A chance to network and share with others; An exploration of part of the book "Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity" by David Allen; Connections to leadership via one or more elements of the AWSP Leadership Framework; A focus on enacting behaviors that support educational equity and justice, and; Updates on "just-in-time nuts and bolts" from OSPI and ESDs

Update on ASB Funding:  We need for A Parent Booster Club.

We will be moving into the new school soon!  Here is a schedule for some of the last-minute details on the new school that will take place over the next two weeks: 

Final cleaning hallways this week and next week, completing details on the dining commons and library this week, door hardware is finishing up this week, the doors for the display cabinet are getting installed this week, the kitchen equipment finishing up this week and early next week, the classroom wings are finishing up with flooring this week, then the final cleaning for the first of November.

The Charger Locker rooms have the floor finishing up this week with plumbing and trim completed by the end of week.

Sprinklers on Site – The contractor is complete with testing irrigation system around the building and at the track. He will start fine tuning this week and bring in Sod equipment mid next week. He still plans on getting all sod down this year.

Sidewalks will be complete by 10/29.

WOW – A new school for our Mt. Adams Community!

Testing will take place twice this year.  It is very important that students attend school, take the tests seriously, and do their very best.  We have some students in high school that are well advanced in their education, yet they score at the Kindergarten level simply because they do not take the test seriously.  This behavior reflects poorly on the student, on the school, and on the student’s family – Please encourage your children to come to school during testing and take the tes with all seriousness.  Thank you parents for your cooperation with this.
