Friday Update from Dr. Guaglianone

White Swan Wrestlers on to State! - The stage is set for the Mat Classic. Congratulations to Arturo Espindola, Anthony Luton, Rainna Castilleja, and Derrick Wheeler  for placing at regionals.

We also want to thank all our wrestlers for their dedication to athletics and academics. We are proud of you!

Now let’s wish this great group of student athletes “Good Luck” as they take on the best of the state!

Go Cougars!

White Swan Cougars Boys Basketball – The Cougar Men’s Team beat Warden on Tuesday night! The team came back from a 14-point deficit in the 3rd quarter and then dominated the court with a win! Last night, Thursday, the men’s team traveled to Riverview and beat the Panthers to qualify for our league

White Swan Cougars Girls Basketball - We would like to thank our girls on a great season. A group of very talented young players will be ready to make a run for State next season. Thank you parents, families, and fans for your support of our student athletes.

I love FFA!  White Swan had an “I love FFA Assembly.” - Mrs. Grooters and her FFA Chapter students put together a fun assembly for the whole campus and the theme, believe it or not, was, "I love FFA."  Staff and students competed in fun events like barrel racing, getting pigs into the pen, and fast pace feeding of pigs. Don't worry, no animals were present or hurt during this assembly. Catch a glimpse of the fun by watching a video on the White Swan High School Facebook or Instagram feed. https://www.facebook.com/wshsmams209.org/

WIDA testing is going well. What is WIDA? WIDA is the acronym for “World-class Instructional Design and Assessment.” WIDA is a consortium of states dedicated to the design and implementation of high standards and equitable educational opportunities for English language learners.  Principal Widener wants to offer a Shout Out to the 4th grade team that has completed 3 out of the 4 tests. She states, “I appreciate their intentional use of testing time and the cooperation the teachers have been committed to which ensures that all students are supported throughout their testing time.”

Middle School Basketball teams Excel!   Mr. Hernandez reported that both the A and B Charger Teams came away with wins at this week’s basketball challenge against Mabton. “It was a well-played and well-coached game, and the students and the fans displayed our Panther and Charger pride and great manners by the way they welcomed and treated the opposing team,” stated Hernandez.

The Harrah Campus Library gets a boost!  This week we received the exciting news that our Required Action District (RAD) Plan was updated and approved by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. This will bring additional funding that will include a considerable investment in our school library. We were awarded $92,000 to spend on books for our students that will be added to our existing library collection. We will again be contracting with Mr. David Stiner to assist us in purchasing the books and getting them onto our shelves.

New Harrah Language Development Teacher - Thanks to Mrs. Jarnecke’s skill at writing grants, the Harrah Campus will have a new English Language Learner Interventionist who comes to us with experience in working with students who have learned English as their second language and is an excellent teacher of teachers.  Our new Interventionist is well versed in her teaching skills and abilities to support staff in developing strong language development skills across all content areas. These staff will then be better prepared to work with students to help them in their journey toward high school graduation and to be prepared for life.
