Friday Update from Dr. Guaglianone

Credit Completion Lab at White Swan High School  - Five students have made up all of their credits and are now on track for graduation, and there are dozens more right behind them.  Twenty-eight individual students have completed almost thirty credits.

At the end of first semester, White Swan Teacher Leaders evaluated the Credit Completion Lab. These classes are designed to help students move towards graduation.

The White Swan teachers have done a wonderful job of helping students see hope and understand that they can complete their credits and have a successful journey toward on-time graduation. There are now five Seniors that took CCL who will graduate in June due to the hard work they did in CCL. Without the CCL class, their graduation date would have been delayed by at least one year. Principal Tenney states, “As we begin the second semester, we are excited to see how many other students will get back on track for on-time graduation using the CCL class.”

The White Swan Greenhouse is Up and Running: The Baby Plants are arriving soon.

White Swan’s AG teacher Ms. Grooters reports that we will soon have about 1,000 baby plants in the greenhouse.

In order to get ready for the plants, the greenhouse needed a few repairs. Mr. Duncanson, our shop teacher, worked with students to frame in a door to help make smaller spaces in the greenhouse. This will help make the greenhouse more energy efficient. The maintenance department also helped by putting up plastic on the road side and overseeing the installation of a new fan and controls. This is just the beginning step to prepare for the Spring plant sale!

We look forward to seeing the community members come out to see what we have to offer and to help support our Future Farmers of America have a successful 2024 White Swan High School Plant Sale!

Cougar Spring Sports -Baseball, Softball, Boys Soccer, Tennis, Golf, and Track and Field will all start their first practice of the season on February 26th.  Feel free to bring a lawn chair and a few snacks to sit, watch, and cheer on our teams and student athletes.

Middle School Wrestling Tournament - On Wednesday, Harrah School hosted their first-ever wrestling meet. Wrestlers from Union Gap, Selah, West Valley, Granger, Goldendale, and of course, Mount Adams, competed fiercely to take down and pin one another during Thursday's match. We also inaugurated our new Snack Bar on the Harrah Campus and were pleased to sell snacks to the many parents and fans who turned out to cheer on their favorite matt contenders.

100th Day of School -Students celebrate their 100th day of school by creating 100-themed decorations, and doing lessons and activities that revolve around the number 100.  Can you identify any of these centenarians?

Bye Bye Birdie - In P.E., learners of all ages are introduced to and enjoy badminton.  The question is, “How many times can the Birdie be hit by the players before it hits the ground?”

Teacher Professional Learning Teams are hard at work - Grade-level PLTs worked with Principal, Mrs. Widener, to further develop their math instructional skills. They discussed data and how it should drive instructional decisions and support strategies. They are using this data to improve student achievement by creating action plans, collecting evidence, and planning next steps to ensure high levels of learning for every child every day!
