Friday Update from Dr. Guaglianone

Impact Aid application Submitted

DONE! Another year under our belts submitting the Impact Aid Application.  This process begins in October with staff member Helen Hagerty comparing information from last year, looking at school records and using the Yakama Nation Realty maps to determine how many students are living on Trust land and also enrolled students of the Mt. Adams School District.

The student listing is then carefully checked and certified by Tribal leadership. Once certified, Ms. Haggerty delivers the completed packet to our office.  This packet is included with our application to the US Department of Education Impact Aid Office that is completed by our Business Manager Mr. Chad Crawford.  Mr. Crawford inputs all of the district data and before he submits the application.  Ms. Dana Jarnecke was also involved this year shepherding the process along.  Next year we plan to expand our search for Impact Aid dollars by asking parents if they work on Trust and, which would possibly increase the number of students who qualify for funding.

Brain Breaks in Kindergarten

Kindergarten students relax their minds and move their bodies as they dance for a quick brain break between academic tasks.

To support our effort in increasing student writing, the kinder team has students combine their sight word recognition skills with sentence structuring as they cut out and rearrange text to create grammatically correct sentences. Way to go students and congratulations teachers – This is GREAT WORK!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebrated!

Sixth grade students commemorated Martin Luther King Jr. by creating murals that included their dreams for the world as well as pictures that represent peace.  These students should be proud of their work and desire to bring peace to their classroom, school, community, and the world.

Snowmen in the playground and in the Art room at Harrah

In art, students of all grades sculpt snowmen out of clay to add a wintery mix of artwork to the display case near the entrance of our school.

Shout out to the Maintenance and Grounds Staff

Both Principal Widener and Principal Tenney have expressed their appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our maintenance and grounds staff.  Both principals wanted to make sure that this “Friday Update” offers praise and thanks to all the maintenance and grounds staff who work so hard to keep the building and grounds clear and safe for everyone!!  Thank you team for your hard work and dedication to our students, staff, and facilities!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

The song was written by composer Jule Styne and lyricist Sammy Cahn, “Let It Snow!” – also known as “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”   Believe it or not, the song was penned during a heat wave in July of 1945 in Hollywood, CA as the musicians wished for cooler conditions.  Well, Jule and Sammy were probably not PreK-12 educators who have to manage state-mandated learning hours in the classroom.  Yet, it is beautiful and I hope everyone is able to enjoy a beautiful snowy weekend.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!
