Homecoming Week at White Swan – It is Homecoming week at White Swan High School.  Principal Tenney says, “It has been a blast.”  The students have participated in spirit week and we are looking forward to the game tonight with Cle Elum, and the dance on Saturday. GO COUGARS!

Teacher Evaluation is the Topic for Professional Development This Week - This week Darcy Jamison from the ESD came out and met with teachers about the new pieces of the evaluation system that will come online next year. There will be a significant change in how teachers are to write student growth goals and gather data around student learning. In order to help teachers meet this challenge and learn about the new expectations from the state, the district offers Professional development(PD) to the staff in a small group or individual basis. The PD is a series of six meetings held over the school year.

State Report on Career Technical Education submitted - Mr. Muller submitted a report to the state for CTE funding. The report detailed how the school spent last school year’s CTE money including our efforts to recruit for gender equity in our classrooms. In the first year of our food’s program the classes were overwhelmingly female students and the welding classes mostly male. Now however those classes have close to even numbers of male and females.

A Million Miles Away (2023) Amazon Prime – Dr. Guaglianone is not a million miles away, but he did have the opportunity to become reacquainted with Nasa Astronaut, Dr. Jose Hernandez.  The two men met at University of the Pacific in 2006, two years after Dr. Hernandez’ 2004 Space Shuttle Mission STS-128 to the international space station.  University of the Pacific in Stockton, California is where Dr. Guaglianone earned his doctoral degree and Mr. Hernandez received his bachelor of science degree.

Dr. Miguel Cardona – US Secretary of Education – Miguel Angel Cardona (born July 11, 1975) is an American educator and is currently serving as the twelfth United States secretary of education under President Joe Biden since 2021. Dr. Guaglianone was one of seven school district superintendents in the nation to speak with Dr. Cardona for an hour this week at the conference for the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents.  Dr. Guaglianone shared information about Mt. Adams School District, the need for more infrastructure funding for Federally Impacted School Districts like Mt. Adams, and stressed the need for a national campaign to stress the importance of being a teacher and to encourage more American youth to become professional educators.
