Friday Update from Dr. Guaglianone

Cross-age Tutoring and Support on the Harrah Campus – Just as the district had anticipated, Mr. Galland's 7th grade class invited the 2nd grader students to join them in starting the Harrah Campus inaugural school gardens. The 7th grade mentors assisted their younger peers in setting up small pots and picking out the particular flowering seeds that will one day beautify our garden area! Thank you 7th grade students for taking these younger students under your wings to teach and mentor them in learning.

The Harrah Playground is getting so close to completion. It is exciting to see the ongoing development. Principal Widener reports that the PBIS team is working on a plan to teach students how to use the new equipment. Students will be given time to enjoy the new playground one class at a time before we mix classes. The timeline calls for the work to be finished by Friday, May 27th as long as the weather stays in the 80-degree range.

Mt. Adams is a state-leader with our Cultural Activity absence form.  The third convening between Native American leaders and elders with public school district board members and superintendents took place this week and was held at the Legends Casino.  Several best practices were shared between districts and Tribes including the Cultural Activity absence form that Mt. Adams School District developed.  The District is a model for the state at Cultural Activity related absences can count as attendance if parents complete

Teacher Interviews are continuing on the Harrah Campus this week. Our interview teams are being very thoughtful as they consider each candidate. We are looking for people who will be instructionally successful and will add positively to our culture and climate. I appreciate my interview teams very much!

Notes of Appreciation on the Harrah Campus - Mrs. Turcott’s students in all of her classes wrote letters to the Harrah Campus staff letting them know how much they are appreciated. There were many heartfelt letters written and delivered throughout the building.  The Yakama Nation Head Start wrote this note to Harrah’s building leaders, “Shix Pachway,  I just wanted to thank you and your staff for allowing White Swan Head Start promoting students come down to experience life as a kindergarten student last week. We had multiple parents let myself and our site supervisor ,Theresa Shike, know that their kid loved it at the big school and are excited to be there this upcoming school year. Again, thank you for giving us your time and making it enjoyable and welcoming for our students.  Attached are the group pictures that we took at the end of our visit.”  Josephine Wallahee
